Vice president Yemi Osinbajo has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is in government for the Nigerian people adding that the present administration would always be open to dialogue. The vice president made this known while receiving a delegation of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, February 23. Osinbajo explained that government has set out a number of initiatives to better the lot of ordinary Nigerians including the six social investment programs for which a sum of N500 billion has been allocated in the 2016 budget.

Some of the issues discussed include the new electricity tariffs, minimum wage among others which he promised to engage relevant stakeholders on. He enjoined all Nigerians to support government in the fight against corruption, adding that there can be no economic growth where high level corruption is prevalent. “We are here for the people, if not for the people, we will not be here. We got here by the grace of God and the votes of the man on the street who felt it’s time for change. “If you don’t fight corruption, you cannot even deal with the economy, you need to hold corrupt people accountable because they stole the money meant for the economy.”

“Our sense of outrage is nowhere near what has happened. Some people are even arguing why are we going after the looters, that we should concentrate on the economy. But if we don’t fight corruption, we can’t deal with the economy effectively,” he said. In his remark, the president of the TUC, Bobboi Kaigama expressed support for the administrations’ zero-tolerance to corruption adding that the government should address issues that affect the welfare of Nigerian workers.
