SIX FEARED KILLED IN DELTA AUTO CRASH

No fewer than six persons were yesterday feared killed, and two others severely injured in a ghastly motor accident which occurred on the Asaba – Benin expressway, just before the Asaba Airport.

Eyewitness, Felicia Ogbomo, said the accident occurred as a result of the driver’s reckless driving and over-speeding when the vehicle and another coming from the same direction rammed into each other on the expressway. It was gathered that seven vehicles were allegedly involved in the accident because of their speed and closeness while the victims were reportedly rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Asaba, for treatment.

They were said to have given up the ghost before reaching the hospital. Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, commander in the state, Rindom Kuven, when contacted, said the accident was caused by over-speeding, adding that it resulted in heavy vehicular traffic in the early hours of the day on the expressway.

Investigation revealed that there have been frequent accidents on the expressway in the past three weeks, a situation some residents in Okpanam community who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, described as pathetic, adding that they are caused by evil forces.

When our correspondent visited the scene of the accident, scores of broken windscreens were found littering the ground while sympathisers thronged the scene, bemoaning the tragedy.
