95 Auchi Poly students remanded in prison

No fewer than 95 part-time students of the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, who were arrested during a violent protest at the institution yesterday have been remanded in prison custody.‎
The part time students who were protesting against “no school fees, no exam” rule allegedly introduced by the Acting Rector of the institution, Jimoh Bramah, were said to have destroyed proprties worth several millions of naira during the riot.
Items destroyed by the rampaging students included vehicles and school buildings.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, confirmed the arraignment and remand of the students after he visited the institution on Friday to ascertain the level of damage, described the incident as unfortunate and highest order of impunity.
He disclosed that the school library and computer laboratory were destroyed and vandalised, just as he ‎vowed to arrest other students involved in the wanton destruction.
He said those charged to court were remanded in prison custody till the 29th of June
