Few weeks after the abortion, Jade overdosed twice on medication, she was hospitalized and advised to seek psychiatric help..
The trainee psychiatrist who spoke with Jade, Dr. Easodhavidhya
Elangomo, described Jade as a preoccupied and impatient young woman who
clearly loved her son very much.“She told me about the abortion she had just weeks earlier, and how the split from her ex-partner had been very distressing for her. She told me she believed he had a new girlfriend and was struggling to come to terms with it,” said Dr. Elangomo.
“She denied having any past medical history or any form of psychotic illness. When I asked her about this, she said “For God’s sake, I have a son to look after.”
Concerned about the overdoses and Jade’s tendency towards impulsive behavior, the psychiatrist asked Jade to continue with help from mental health specialists. Jade promised to do so.
On November 2nd, which was 3 weeks after the abortion, Jade told her parents she was going to party with friends and left. According to her parents, when she returned home, she was clearly upset.
That night, while listening to the Ed Sheeran song “Small Bump” which is a first person account of a miscarriage.
She left a handwritten suicide note to her parents and her son where she talked about how she had struggled over the past few weeks, how her decision had left her “upset and depressed,” and how her son, meant everything to her.
