If you saunter into a KFC branch in Belfast, you may have sweet, succulent chicken in mind but vermin could be on the menu. Photos and videos have surfaced online showing a rat scurrying around like it owned the place. It was supposedly spotted in a Belfast branch of KFC.
Seana Ryan, 23, said: "It was just surreal, I was out with my boyfriend and friend when we heard this man shouting, 'Take pictures'.
"It was running around the tables and climbing up on the benches."
A KFC spokesperson said: "We take the hygiene of our restaurants extremely seriously, so we were really shocked by this and immediately closed the store. We invited the authorities to inspect the premises the very next morning, who found no trace of a pest issue, past or present, and declared the restaurant fully clear to reopen. Although there is a wider issue in this area of the city, the restaurant has no history of problems like this and received the highest score possible on its most recent independent hygiene inspection with 5 out of 5 stars. We’re truly sorry this happened, but it seems it was a very unfortunate freak event.”
