Former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith was shot and killed in the Lower Garden District of the city on Saturday night after a car crash. He was shot after exchanging words with an individual in a Hummer who rear-ended his car, leading it to strike another vehicle. Cardell Hayes, the 28-year-old suspect, was booked for second-degree murder on Sunday. Smith, 34, was shot a number of times and his wife Racquel was shot twice in the leg, according to police. Smith was pronounced dead on the scene and his wife was taken to the hospital. The 30-year-old driver, and the alleged shooter, is in custody and being interviewed.
