In a state wide broadcast on the state-owned radio station on Thursday, in contradiction to rumour going around the Emir of Gusau in Zamfara, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, assured the people of the state that he was still alive not dead.“l want the people to know that l am alive, but l will soon go to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment,” he said.
The monarch said the announcement was necessary in order to clear the air over rumours being peddled by some people that he had died.
The emir, however, thanked his well-wishers for their concern over his well-being and urged them to continue to pray for him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a statement earlier issued by the Secretary of the Emirate, Alhaji Sambo Sambo, said the emir was going to Saudi Arabia and would be there for seven weeks.
The statement said, during his stay, the emir would undergo medical checks at the Saudi German Hospital as well as perform the lesser hajj (Umra).
NAN also reports that rumours about the emir’s death were widespread early in the week which led to the radio broadcast. (NAN)
