Budget delay: ‘Don’t point fingers at Buhari’ – Presidency

The Presidency has said President Muhammadu Buhari should not be made a scapegoat for the delay in assenting into law, the 2016 Appropriation Bill.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the fact that the details of the budget isn’t ready has prevented President Buhari from signing the document.
Adesina, while speaking to Punch Newspapers, inferred that it’s unreasonable to expect the President to assent to a bill without studying the details.
“The House of Representatives says budget details may not be ready till the next two weeks. Do you sign what you don’t have the details of?”
“If the President will check the provisions of the budget ministry by ministry, it then goes without saying that he must have budget details, not just highlights, before the document can be signed.”
“If anybody wants to criticise delay of the budget, they should know where to point fingers, but definitely not at the Presidency.”
