Mile 12 riot: 16-year-old boy hit by stray bullet battling for survival

A 16-year-old boy, Kalejaye Bolaji, who was reportedly hit by a stray bullet during the recent Mile 12 crisis in Lagos state, is battling for survival at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH.

It would be recalled that mayhem struck at the Mile 12 market, March 3, where many houses, churches and vehicles were touched. The riot was alleged to have ethnic coloration, leading to the death of six people.

According to reports, Bolaji was on his way home from where he went to write JAMB examination when he was hit by a stray bullet.

A family member told Vanguard: “Bolaji was on his way home after writing Jamb, when the incident happened.

“With the little strength left, he rushed to a police station, where he was chased away by the officers on duty. Can you imagine how insensitive the Nigerian police can be?

“He fell along the road. If not for a neighbour who saw him lying helplessly on the road and then informed his parents, only God knows what would have happened.

“Immediately his parents were alerted, they rushed him to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH.”
