The Lagos State University Students
Union (LASUSU) on Wednesday said the autopsy report on the death of a
200-level female student of the school, Lara Gbadeyan, stated that she
died naturally.
The LASUSU President, Mr. Tayo Sekoni, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
He spoke to NAN on the sideline of a news briefing organised by the union on the institution’s main campus in Ojo, Lagos.
Sekoni said the autopsy report confirmed that Gbadeyan’s death was “natural and unconnected” to anyone.
He said following the autopsy report,
the students union filed a case on behalf of 11 students suspended by
the university authority in connection with the incident
He said, “Since nobody was linked to Gbadeyan’s death, the suspension had been lifted by the management.
“The union taught it was unwise for the
suspended students to be punished for an offence they did not commit and
the university authority agreed with the union.
“We, however, pray the departed soul will rest in peace.”
Gbadeyan, a female student in the
Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Faculty of
Management Science in LASU died on February 11, 2016.
She died at a party hosted by the
History and International Studies Students Association at an event
centre in Igando, in the Igando/Ikotun Local Council Development Area.
The university management in a bulletin
said the organisers of the party neither informed it nor sought its
approval for the event.
According to the university, this action is contrary to the rules and regulations of the institution.
LASU management later suspended 11
former executive members of the Students Society of History and
International Studies (SSOHIS) indefinitely over the incident.
It said the students were the organisers of the party that led to the death of Gbadeyan
