Designers Are Bringing This Spice Girls-Inspired '90s Shoe Trend Back

Ah, the Spice Girls: They may not have released an album in the past 15-plus years, but we still have our fingers crossed for a full-blown reunion tour, no matter how many times the girl power group says it may never happen with the five-some intact. While their music will forever be on our blast-in-the-shower-on-a-bad-day playlist, it was their style that was truly so iconic. The minidresses, big hair, and—yes—platform shoes were everything. While some of us may have been a Posh, sporting LBDs and blunt bobs, and others related more to Sporty, in track pants and crop tops, we all coveted those hard-to-walk-in, high-rise shoes in some form or another.

If the statement accessories of Fashion Month’s fall collections thus far have taught us anything, it’s that platforms are back. But, will you try them, come autumn? Designers from Marc Jacobs to Vera Wang created everything from thigh-high boots to sneakers in varying degrees of chunky heights. We’re not talking about a little extra lift: We’re talking about some serious Spice Girls power. While you may start off slow, with a ’90s-inspired platform sneaker or edgy flatform combat boot, check out the head-turning styles that have walked the runway this season.
Models at the Giamba show rocked platform moto bots with feminine florals and white minidresses.
Vera Wang’s open-toe ankle booties reached next-level heights.
