– A 106-year-old woman has fulfilled her dream to meet President Obama – Virginia McLaurin visited the White House to celebrate Black History Month – “I didn’t think I’d ever live to see a coloured president. I am so happy. I pray for you every day of my life.” Almost all her life she waited to see an African-American in the White House and her cherished dream finally came true. Virginia McLaurin, aged 106, met President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama this weekend in the White House.

McLaurin was invited to the White House to celebrate Black History Month and she turned it into a great dance party with the Obamas. In a video that has been shared almost 300,000 times on Facebook, the trio are seen talking, dancing and laughing together.

“Just keep moving,” the overjoyed pensioner replies. She later added: “I thought I would never live to get in the White House. And I tell you. I am so happy. A black president, a black wife. And I’m here to celebrate black history. Yea! That’s what I’m here for.”

The meeting came a year after McLaurin launched a petition and social media campaign to get the invitation to the White House. McLaurin was born in South Carolina in 1909. In 1941, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she has resided ever since. She has lived through 18 presidents.
