- The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, has given the assurance that maximum security will be provided for the June 21 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti, Mr Felix Uyannah, conveyed Abubakar’s assurance while speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Monday.Uyannah said he met with the Inspector-General recently in Abuja over the forthcoming election.He warned that anyone or group planning to cause chaos before, during or after the exercise would have themselves to blame.Abubakar assured the 18 participating political parties that the police would play the role of unbiased umpire, and urged them to caution their followers against causing trouble.He said, “He warned that cases associated with rigging, ballot snatching and impersonation would be viewed with serious consequences by the police.”He also called on the people to conduct themselves properly on the election day, and ignore any threat that could prevent them from voting.The commissioner urged candidates for the election to abide by the rule while campaigning.
