PARIS (AP) — A 76-year-old Frenchman is on trial for taking justice into his own hands after a decades-long mission to avenge his daughter's death.
Andre Bamberski is accused of ordering retired doctor Dieter Krombach kidnapped in Germany in 2009 and brought to France to face charges in the 1982 death of 15-year-old Kalinka.
Krombach, 79, the girl's stepfather, is serving 15 years in prison, a sentence upheld this year by France's highest appeals court. He was accused of giving the girl a dangerous injection so he could rape her and convicted of "intentional violence that led to unintentional death."
It is now Bamberski's turn to face justice. His trial opened Thursday in Mulhouse, near France's border with Germany, and he faces up to 10 years in prison on kidnapping and other charges.
